Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, has asked social pillars or workers in all regions of the country to strengthen preparations for facing the disaster season.

The minister informed that he has directed the disaster preparedness cadet team (Tagana), social assistance centers, and social affairs offices in regions, especially in areas prone to hydrometeorological disasters, to remain prepared 24/7.

Hydrometeorological disasters during the rainy season can take the form of floods, landslides, twisters, and high tides.

"We (the ministry) have asked Tagana, other social pillars, and social centers to be on standby 24 hours a day to accelerate aid distribution in case of disasters," Minister Yusuf said during the 2024 National Heroes' Day commemoration at the National Library Building here on Friday.

He added that the Social Affairs Ministry has 668 social assistance centers, whose location has been determined based on the disaster vulnerability of the surrounding areas.

Given their strategic positions, the social aid centers will serve as assistance distribution centers in case of disaster events.

In addition, Yusuf assured of the availability of logistics, including staples, at the social centers.

"The Social Affairs Ministry will always be ready to provide assistance, including evacuation tents, food, clothes, and public kitchens, if needed," he said.

He also emphasized that all relevant parties at the central to regional levels have made preparations to anticipate the disaster season.

He then appealed to people, especially those living in disaster-prone areas, to recognize the signs of disasters, including landslides. He noted that most of Indonesia's regions are currently vulnerable to hydrometeorological disasters due to the approach of the rainy season.
