Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto offered a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, on the sidelines of his inaugural state visit to China.

According to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat, the President led the wreath-laying ceremony at the monument on Saturday at noon, Beijing time.

At the monument, Prabowo was welcomed by Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and other officials. The national anthems of both countries were played upon their arrival.

The President and his delegation then laid the wreath in a solemn procession, during which the patriotic song Flowers to the Heroes was played.

After the ceremony, Prabowo proceeded from Tiananmen Square to the next event on his agenda.

The procession was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Minister for Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani.

Deputy ministers, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun also participated in the ceremony.

Before the wreath-laying, Prabowo held bilateral talks with Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

Foreign Minister Sugiono reported on Saturday morning that Prabowo is expected to meet President Xi Jinping later in the day and attend a state banquet. However, the details of their discussions were not disclosed.

Prabowo, who arrived in Beijing on Friday evening at the invitation of President Xi, will remain in China until Sunday, November 10, 2024.

After concluding his visit to China, Prabowo will travel to the United States, Peru, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Qatar.
