Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has gained many valuable insights and experiences through the Southeast Asian Ombudsman Forum (SEAOF), chair of the Indonesian Ombudsman, Mokhammad Najih, has said.

"Through SEAOF, the Indonesian Ombudsman has gained a lot of valuable insights and experiences to improve the quality of public services," he informed in his speech during the handover of the SEAOF chairmanship here on Wednesday.

He explained that the insights and skills learned at the forum will continue to be developed so that they become resources for each country's Ombudsman.

Since SEAOF was formed in 2020, Indonesia has not only benefited from the exchange of information and experience, but also learned about methods for resolving public complaints, he noted.

"This forum has provided extensive benefits to the recognition of the Ombudsman in the ASEAN region," he said.

According to him, the forum has promoted the role of the Ombudsman, considering that there are still many people who do not know what the Ombudsman does and its benefits.

In addition, SEAOF members have helped each other in resolving several issues. For instance, the Indonesian Ombudsman assisted the Thai Ombudsman on the issue of providing a Buddhist statue for a temple in Medan, North Sumatra.

"By working together with the Thai ambassador in Indonesia, ministries, the related agency in North Sumatra, as well as the North Sumatra Ombudsman, we could solve this problem," he said.

On Wednesday, the Indonesian Ombudsman symbolically handed over the chairmanship of SEAOF for 2025–2026 to the Ombudsman of the Philippines.

Najih explained that after taking over the SEAOF chairmanship from Thailand in 2022, the Indonesian Ombudsman held various high-ranking official forums, one of them was the SEAOF Meeting in Yogyakarta in 2023.
