Jakarta (ANTARA) - United States President Joe Biden lauded Indonesia's role as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission.

This was conveyed in the Joint Statement of President Joe Biden and President Prabowo Subianto, which the White House published on the whitehouse.gov page on Tuesday local time.

"President Biden expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's role in the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission," the statement said as quoted on Wednesday.

Biden also joined Indonesia in calling for protection from military activities that could endanger UNIFIL personnel.

The two leaders then drew attention to the war against Ukraine and reaffirmed respect for sovereignty, political independence, territorial integrity, and the United Nations Charter.

Furthermore, the two parties agreed on the importance of serious dialogue for peaceful conflict resolution.

For the victims in Ukraine, Biden and Prabowo also called for rapid and safe access to humanitarian aid and protection of civilians and humanitarian volunteers in vulnerable situations.

Before the discussion ended, Biden welcomed Indonesia's leadership in the G20, which raised issues of developing countries, including in multilateral development banks and strengthening the global health architecture.

"The two leaders aimed to partner up to provide a pathway to growth for developing countries by opening up space for countries with increasing debt burdens to invest in their future," the statement remarked.

Indonesia and the US also highlighted the importance of continuing discussions on the UN Security Council reform.

According to both, a transparent, democratic, efficient, effective, and inclusive UN Security Council is essential to maintain international peace and security.

During the meeting, Prabowo was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

The meeting also commemorated 75 years of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Indonesia, which Biden said was the strongest relationship ever.
