After a meeting with the Minister of Indonesian Migrant Workers' Protection (PPMI), Abdul Kadir Karding, in Jakarta on Wednesday, he said, "We support the PPMI ecosystem, both for departure and arrival facilities at the airport."
He emphasized the important role of his ministry in ensuring departure and arrival facilities for migrant workers at the airport as well as other protection programs.
He also voiced full support for a number of initiatives of the PPMI Minister related to improving the quality of special lounges for PMIs, health protection abroad, and support for the provision of people's business credit (KUR) for them.
"The migrant workers are a major program of President Prabowo. The program ensures comprehensive protection and is a solution to opening up employment opportunities for the Indonesian people, of course, with better quality," Thohir said.
He also highlighted the need to protect migrant workers from parties who often exploit them, such as loan sharks or unscrupulous individuals.
According to him, access to work abroad must bring prosperity to migrant workers' families and not burden them with economic problems.
Thohir also conveyed the readiness of the State-Owned Bank Association (Himbara), including BNI, to support the people's business credit (KUR) program for PMIs.
"We are ready to support the KUR program to be launched by the PPMI Minister through the Himbara facility. This is part of the BUMN's commitment to supporting the protection and empowerment of Indonesian migrant workers," he said.
The meeting was the first step of a strategic collaboration between BUMN and the PPMI Ministry to ensure that migrant workers receive proper protection and adequate financial support.
