Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono emphasized that Indonesia's foreign policy will remain non-bloc, with the nation not siding with any military bloc or pact.

"President Prabowo Subianto has outlined a foreign policy vision where Indonesia remains non-aligned, which means we do not position ourselves in any military bloc," he said at a working meeting with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Monday.

Indonesia is not interested in joining any military bloc or pact because it does not fit with the nation's interest, traditionally and constitutionally, he added.

"We want to be good friends and good neighbors with all countries. The diplomatic path we took will continue to be carried out according to the mandate of the Constitution. We also have the freedom to join other multilateral groupings," he said.

On the contrary, Indonesia is implementing a free and active foreign policy, he emphasized.

"We do not depend on any military bloc or pact, but we are also actively establishing cooperation and collaboration as the main theme of our foreign relations with neighboring countries, both regionally and globally," Sugiono emphasized.

According to him, this was proved by Prabowo's visit to several countries to improve cooperation and communication.

The visit was carried out on the sidelines of a series of trips to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Peru and the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Sugiono said that world leaders have high expectations from Indonesia under Prabowo's leadership to serve as a bridge, communicator, or liaison between countries in the world.

"We also have a potential and strength in natural resources and population. Those two are strategic and dominant factors for other countries to open wider cooperation with Indonesia," he added.

Chairperson of DPR Commission I Utut Adianto; Deputy Chairpersons of Commission I Budisatrio Djiwandono, Ahmad Heryawan, Dave Akbarshah Fikarno Laksono, and Anton Sukartono; and other directors general within the Foreign Affairs Ministry also attended the working meeting on Monday.
