Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) encouraged the use of technology in corruption eradication efforts during the 20th Principals Meeting of the ASEAN Parties Against Corruption (ASEAN-PAC) in Denpasar, Bali, on Monday.
During the event's opening on Monday, KPK Deputy Chairperson Alexander Marwata highlighted the importance of adopting a technology-based collaborative approach to combat corruption, especially in Southeast Asia.
He said that corruption knows no borders. It is not only weakening economic growth but also eroding public trust and hindering progress in many ASEAN countries.
Marwata underlined that technology plays a strategic role in aligning collaborative efforts to eradicate corruption in the ASEAN region. Technology is seen as essential to addressing challenges arising from the diversity of cultures, resources, and histories in each member country.
"The role of technology has become even more critical. Digital tools can provide platforms for sharing information, joint investigations, and real-time monitoring," he said.
He expressed hope that the use of technology would help tackle existing hindrances and serve as a transformative power to build trust between countries.
He said that the implementation of technology needs a clear framework, a robust legal system, and consistent political will from ASEAN-PAC member countries.
The ASEAN-PAC forum is expected to integrate its tasks more comprehensively into the ASEAN community, Marwata pointed out.
He explained that by connecting their tasks to the ASEAN framework, ASEAN-PAC member countries can share reports and recommendations at the ASEAN Summit. This will foster a spirit of cooperation, mutual support, and a sense of shared responsibility.
