Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Trade Budi Santoso stated that the export of electric bicycles to the United States and Europe is proof that Indonesia’s domestic industry is capable of producing high-tech goods.

The minister made the statement while launching the export of Polygon Kalosi electric bicycles in Sidoarjo, East Java, on Tuesday (December 3) to the United States and Europe, valued at US$ 500 thousand.

According to Santoso, the export of these electric bicycles is ocular proof of Indonesia's industrial capabilities in downstream efforts.

"Indonesia has shown its ability to produce high-tech products and create added value to meet demand in the global market," the minister noted.

Most of the key components of the exported electric bicycles come from within the country and are assembled by PT Insera Sena.

To enhance trade performance with partner countries, the Ministry of Trade has formulated the Export Market Expansion Program as one of its priority programs.

One of the ways in which this program is implemented is through efforts to increase trade agreements with partner countries.

"We will complete all trade agreements as soon as possible. The goal is to ensure that Indonesian products have high competitiveness, so that it will be easier to enter the global market," Santoso affirmed.

Furthermore, the bicycle export achievement represents a synergy between the Ministry of Trade and business players who have successfully brought Indonesian products to international markets.

The Minister expressed hope that the contribution of electric bicycle exports would motivate more business players to export value-added products from downstream processing. Moreover, these export results from downstream processing can help drive national economic growth and increase Indonesia’s exports.
