Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) Chief Basuki Hadimuljono assured that office and accommodation facilities for government and ministry workers in Nusantara City are ready for use this month.

"Offices must be ready this December and, God Willing, they will be ready now," Hadimuljono stated on the sidelines of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) XXIII Congress here on Thursday (December 5).

He remarked that the 16 towers designated for coordinating ministries offices and 47 towers assigned for accommodation will be ready by year-end.

The agency chief added that supporting facilities, from restaurants and cafes to barbershops and laundry services, will also be ready for residents of the new capital.

Meanwhile, as Nusantara City is a long-term project and is still far from completion, Hadimuljono expected PII engineers to contribute to the new capital development.

"The new city development is not merely developing its physical aspects but also its 'non-physical' aspect. We need to revamp the Sepaku region, which needs not only engineering but also socio-engineering as we need to adjust to the people's lives," the former cabinet minister explained.

According to the agency head, the clay shale soil layer in certain areas of Nusantara City presents a unique geological challenge, demanding specialized engineering expertise due to its low supporting capability.

He then revealed that areas with such soil quality are utilized to develop water resource conservation facilities.

"We developed 60 water reservoirs at the riparian zone and the runoff area. We are cognizant of the existing land conservation and water resources conditions," Hadimuljono remarked.

The continued development of the new capital is part of the 17 priority programs of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

The two are striving to realize more balanced national development by creating new growth centers outside Java island, one of which is through the development of Nusantara City.
