On its official Instagram account on Wednesday, the embassy announced that the first wave of evacuations of Indonesian citizens was carried out on Tuesday at 2 p.m. local time.
The group of evacuees will halt in Beirut before continuing their flight to Indonesia on Wednesday.
The group is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Thursday, according to a statement issued by the embassy.
Indonesian Ambassador to Syria Wajid Fauzi expressed the hope that their journey would run smoothly and that they would arrive safely in Indonesia.
On Sunday, the embassy stated that all Indonesian citizens in Syria, totaling 1,162, were safe amid the change of power in the conflict-torn country.
During an online discussion, which was followed online on Wednesday, Ambassador Fauzi said that the situation in Syria has gradually returned to normal.
"I went around the city, saw the streets in Damascus. I can say that 98 percent of people's lives are back to normal. Shops are open, public transportation has started running, and people are free to go out—there are no obstacles whatsoever," he reported.
He also assured that so far, Indonesian citizens in Syria are safe, with no reports of any impact from the current developments in Syria.
Syrian anti-regime groups captured Damascus on Sunday.
The prime minister of Syria's new transitional government, Mohammed al-Bashir, said on Tuesday that the Syrian opposition has authorized him to form an interim government.
The Syrian Salvation Government (SSG) was formed by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and other armed groups in the northwestern Idlib province in 2017.
After the fall of Damascus on Sunday, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali agreed to transfer power to SSG.
Meanwhile, former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad stepped down and left the country.
Assad and his family were confirmed to have arrived in Moscow on Sunday, where they were offered asylum by the Russian Government.
