During a meeting in Jakarta on Friday (Dec 13), Ambassador Boroujerdi discussed the possibility of an agreement on transferring sentenced persons (TSP) between the two countries.
"Currently, 59 Iranian citizens are detained in Indonesia in connection with narcotics cases,” Supratman said, responding to the question.
He revealed that the Indonesian government is preparing an academic paper that will later be used to draft a Bill on the Transfer of Prisoners between Countries.
He noted that the Indonesian Ministry of Law is meticulously studying the legal mechanisms and policies to be applied to the bill.
According to Supratman, the bill has been included in the 2025-2029 National Legislation Program list.
Furthermore, he explained that the government, along with the Indonesian House of Representatives, agreed not to grant pardon or amnesty for various cases of extraordinary crimes, such as corruption, drugs, and gross human rights violations.
"However, the authority to take the final decision rests with the president, subject to certain considerations," he noted.
Supratman expressed his gratitude to Iran for supporting Indonesia in jointly combating transnational organized crime by signing the Bilateral Agreement between Indonesia and Iran on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and Extradition in 2016.
He also emphasized that Iran is Indonesia’s strategic partner in the Middle East.
Thus, he expressed hope that the cooperative relations between the two countries will be better and more stable, especially in the fields of law, energy, and technology.
"I am sure that through cooperation in the legal field between the two countries, the current strategic relationship can be strengthened, of course, based on the supremacy of law," Supratman concluded.
