At the "2024 Year-End Reflection" activity of the Law Ministry's Directorate General of Laws and Regulations (DJPP) here on Tuesday, he informed that President Prabowo Subianto has asked the government to be selective in granting amnesty for certain cases every year.
"That way, it is appropriate to have a law on pardon, amnesty, abolition, and rehabilitation," he said at the reflection activity, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
He informed that, in the coming years, Indonesia will have several strategies concerning laws and regulations.
He then asked DJPP officials to anticipate real issues related to pardon, amnesty, abolition, and rehabilitation.
He also urged the DJPP to prepare laws related to general elections and regional head elections.
He said that the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) have agreed to a proposal to devise such a law. In addition, the government has initiated the law on political parties.
"All of these need to be prepared from now on," he added.
Minister Agtas also asked the DJPP to strengthen the harmonization of laws and regulations so that over-regulation and overlapping regulations in various sectors can be handled.
He further asked the directorate general to resolve conflicts related to legal norms and the authority of each ministry/agency and local governments.
He stressed that laws and regulations must not contradict President Prabowo's long-term development plan and eight main missions, or Asta Cita.
He then expressed the hope that the "2024 Year-End Reflection" activity of the DJPP would provide lessons to support the ministry's performance in devising regulations to achieve the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. (INE)
