The two figures met at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, Jakarta, on Monday (December 23), according to the head of the ministry's Defense Information Bureau, Brig. Gen. Frega Wenas Inkiriwang.
When contacted from Jakarta on Tuesday, he quoted Minister Sjamsoeddin as saying that the global dynamics had prompted Indonesia to devise stronger and more sophisticated defense strategies.
"Moreover, the defense minister pushed for maritime transformation, which requires synergy between the Indonesian Armed Forces and domestic (defense) industries," he affirmed.
Inkiriwang noted that Sjamsoeddin emphasized the importance of Indonesia manufacturing and possessing reliable maritime defense equipment.
During the meeting, the minister also urged the admiral to further intensify TNI AL's interactions with fellow naval forces from other countries by holding more joint drills to implement Indonesia's defense diplomacy.
In its press release cited here on Tuesday, the Indonesian Navy explained that Admiral Ali paid a visit to the defense minister to build a higher level of synergy between the TNI AL and the Ministry of Defense in safeguarding Indonesia's sovereignty.
The TNI AL is in the process of drafting two strategic documents: the 2025-2029 Strategic Plan of the Indonesian Navy and the Development of the Indonesian Navy's Power Posture for the 2025-2044 period.
Expected to conclude their formulation this year, the two documents will serve as a guideline for the TNI AL to fortify its defense posture following the end term of Indonesia's Minimum Essential Force program in 2024.
