Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo inspected security preparations for the Christmas Eve mass at the Jakarta Cathedral on Tuesday.

"Alongside the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and other stakeholders, we have taken security measures to facilitate Christmas services, including the one planned for tonight," he remarked.

He said he instructed police officers to conduct a comprehensive inspection to ensure the Christmas Eve mass runs smoothly and safely.

"We have ordered personnel to conduct security operations, from sterilizing the venue to ensuring the proper implementation of all security procedures," he revealed.

Listyo emphasized that all the measures were intended to enable congregants to attend the mass and celebrate Christmas with joy.

He arrived at the cathedral at 4:06 p.m. local time, along with Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and others.

Under Operation Lilin 2024, which is planned to last 13 days from December 21, the police have employed various security measures for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The operation entails the mobilization of 141,605 joint personnel comprising police officers, soldiers, and other officers.

The large number of joint personnel is stationed at 2,794 posts across the country.

The officers are tasked with overseeing 61,452 locations, including churches, shopping centers, bus terminals, train stations, ports, airports, tourist attractions, and New Year celebration venues.
