Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - The Telecommunications Accessibility Agency (BAKTI), under the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, has confirmed that studies to develop the SATRIA-2 satellite will continue throughout 2025.

“Technically, we are still updating on the visibility (studies). That way, the technology will provide the greatest benefit to the community,” President Director of BAKTI Fadhilah Mathar remarked here on Saturday.

Earlier, in October 2024, BAKTI had announced that the construction of SATRIA-2 would proceed, with plans for it to function as a twin geostationary satellite.

Head of the BAKTI Satellite and Internet Access Division, Harris Sangidun, explained that the twin satellites will be named SATRIA-2A and SATRIA-2B.

"These two satellites are designed to provide high-speed internet services, with a total capacity of 300 GB per second," Sangidun remarked on October 18.

The development of the twin satellites aims to improve the quality of internet services in Indonesia, ensuring greater stability and speed.

Mathar also highlighted that the construction of SATRIA-2, along with the Palapa Ring Integration project, is geared towards achieving equitable digital connectivity across Indonesia.

SATRIA-2 will also be proposed for inclusion in the Bappenas Green Book, as it is deemed essential for Indonesia's status as an archipelagic country.

“The (challenges of digital infrastructure) cannot wholly be addressed through a terrestrial approach. Hence, areas that are not covered by terrestrial solutions will be provided with the satellite approach,” Mathar stated earlier on October 24.

In addition to the SATRIA-2 project, BAKTI will focus on increasing its capacity through several programs this year.

Mathar expressed hope that BAKTI services would be well-received by the community.

“In 2025, we will focus on the existing resources and increasing capacity so that public services can improve,” she remarked.
