Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has secured funding from Qatar for one million houses, Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Fahri Hamzah announced on Wednesday.

However, he did not disclose the amount of the funding.

"I was only informed that the funding is for one million houses. Qatar sent a representative from the royal family, who is also an investor," Hamzah explained.

The representative will sign an MoU with President Prabowo Subianto, he added.

Hamzah also mentioned that a follow-up meeting will be held after the MoU signing.

"We will hold a technical meeting to discuss land selection, permits, and other matters," Hamzah noted.

He added that the government welcomes any party interested in investing in Prabowo's three-million-housing program.

"We welcome everyone. In this case, our Qatari counterpart has responded quite quickly, and we facilitated it," he remarked.

He stated that the program will be carried out in collaboration with state-owned enterprises and the private sector.

The housing locations will be based on the land designated by local partners. Hamzah mentioned that Prabowo prefers to prioritize urban areas for development.

Earlier, Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait stated that the three-million-housing program has begun attracting foreign investors, though significant effort is still needed to finalize partnerships.

He explained that the housing budget plan for 2025 is Rp5.07 trillion (over US$312 million), which includes an allocation of around Rp1.2 trillion for the development of Nusantara, Indonesia's new capital in East Kalimantan.

Prabowo also instructed Sirait to optimize state assets, such as land confiscated in corruption cases, to build housing for low-income people under the three-million-housing program.

The land will be legalized as state assets through the Directorate General of State Assets at the Ministry of Finance and the Land Bank to expedite the three-million-housing program.
