Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Housing and Settlements projected that the Kemayoran Athletes' Village, formerly used for the 2018 Asian Games, will be revitalized into public housing by April 2025.

Following its use as accommodation for athletes during the Asian Games in 2018, some towers in the complex were repurposed as an emergency field hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2022.

The government then decided to convert sections of the complex into residences for the state apparatus and low-income residents, aiming to use state assets better.

"The Ministry of State Secretariat is responsible for its future purpose and actions to use the complex," Minister Maruarar Sirait noted as per the ministry's statement on Thursday.

To prepare for repurposing the complex, Sirait said his side would establish the criteria for eligible occupants and conduct a review to determine the unit rent price to ensure its affordability for the people.

He noted that the decision to review followed discussions during a meeting with State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi and Head of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) Muhammad Yusuf Ateh.

"As a follow-up, we will also conduct a joint visit to the Athletes' Village with the BPKP Head and the State Secretary Minister," Sirait revealed.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the State Secretariat Ministry Setya Utama stated that based on the related presidential instruction, half of the available units in the Athletes' Village will be allocated to low-income residents and state apparatus.

The revitalization project encompasses 7,426 apartment units distributed across 10 towers in two separate areas of the Athletes' Village. It comprises 5,494 units in seven towers at Block D10 and an additional 1,932 units in three towers at Block C2.

Out of the 7,426 revitalized units, some 1,932 units in towers 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7 of Block D 10 and tower 8 of Block C2 will be offered to state apparatus and low-income residents.

The revitalization project, valued at Rp367 billion, commenced on August 26, 2024, and is expected to be completed in April 2025.
