Jakarta (ANTARA) - Former coach of Indonesia's national football team, Shin Tae-yong (STY), on Saturday bid adieu and thanked the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) while wishing the team good luck.

PSSI parted way with STY on January 6 and replaced his position with Dutch football legend Patrick Kluivert.

In his social media, STY, who had coached the team since 2020, thanked PSSI and its chair, Erick Thohir.

"First of all, I would like to thank Erick Thohir for his great support for our team. If it was not for you, we would never have achieved what we are now," he wrote on his Instagram account @shintaeyong7777 on Saturday.

He also conveyed his gratitude for PSSI, for helping and supporting him.

He then expressed his gratitude to the players and coaching staff who have worked so hard for the team.

"I also thanked the coaching team. There were many difficulties but I know I have always worked together with the players for the best results," he continued.

He also wished Indonesia to get qualified for the 2026 World Cup.

"Many thanks and gratitude to the players. We must qualify for the 2026 World Cup. I hope they can play at the World Cup," STY remarked.

In addition, he said he would never forget the love and support given to him during his tenure.

"Lastly, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all Indonesian people who have loved and supported me. I will always remember the warmth and support you have given to me," he noted.

Since 2020, STY has managed to score several achievements, such as bringing the national football team to the 2023 Asian Cup, the semifinalists of the U-23 Asian Cup, and bringing the team to the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
