Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Health Ministry has initiated its Quick Win program to improve the capacity and quality of regional general hospitals (RSUDs) at the Reda Bolo RSUD in Southwest Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, on Friday.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that his ministry will upgrade the hospital's level from type D to type C to improve facilities and health access for the community.

Later, patients with serious cases will not need to be referred to hospitals in Jakarta or the provincial hospital.

"Patients do not need to be sent to Kupang. This hospital can serve the community better," the minister informed in a statement issued by his office on Friday.

He said that the development of Reda Bolo hospital will include the construction of a three-story building with a capacity of 100 beds; ICVCU, Intermediate, KRIS, VIP, ICU, PICU, and HCU facilities; a modern operating room; a cath lab; a complete laboratory; a polyclinic; and the installation of other equipment.

According to the minister, type C hospitals need to have basic specialist doctors, such as internists, surgeons, pediatricians, obstetricians, and gynecologists.

Such specialist doctors can handle more complex medical cases without needing to refer patients to larger hospitals, he said.

Sadikin added that an increase in diagnostic capabilities could boost health services in the region.

"With adequate facilities and medical personnel, Type C Hospitals also play an important role as a link in the referral system. They can reduce the burden on large hospitals and accelerate access to services for the community," he expounded.

Besides infrastructure, his ministry will also focus on ensuring the availability of human resources by offering scholarship and fellowship programs to produce local specialist doctors who can serve their home regions.

In the statement issued on Friday, the Presidential Chief of Staff, A.M. Putranto, informed that the effort is part of the government's commitment to accelerate the uniform improvement of health services.

"Increasing the capacity of regional hospitals such as in Reda Bolo is a real manifestation to ensure all people, especially in remote areas, can experience quality health services," he said.

The quick win program for improving the quality and capacity of regional hospitals will be carried out in 66 regional hospitals in remote, border, and island districts or cities.

A total of 32 regional hospitals will be upgraded in 2025 and another 34 in 2026. The construction work to increase the capacity of the Reda Bolo Regional Hospital is targeted to be completed in December 2025.
