Jakarta (ANTARA) - Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait announced plans to establish a national strategic program aimed at assisting low-income individuals, or known as MBR.

Sirait remarked that this initiative has already received approval from President Prabowo Subianto.

"We will create this national strategic program specifically for low-income people, not just a project. Collaboration with other ministries will be carried out," he noted at the Presidential Palace Complex here on Tuesday.

The minister said his side will collaborate with Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, and Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR), Nusron Wahid.

The national strategic program aims to foster equitable development and optimize the use of underutilized land to benefit low-income communities.

"The purpose is to speed up the (building construction) permitting process and ensure that development is fairly distributed, especially how to use state-owned land," Sirait remarked.

Regarding permits, he also highlighted that the government is striving to expedite the issuance of various licenses, including building construction approval (PBG).

"The PBG, which was formerly known as IMB, is now referred to as building construction approval. Previously, it took around 45 days to process, but we plan to reduce that to just 10 days," he explained.

Moreover, Sirait also updated President Prabowo about the progress of the licensing approval acceleration program in some regions.

The approval time in Jakarta was about 17 minutes, while it took an hour in Tangerang, Banten, and Sumedang, West Java.

"This is a remarkable achievement for bureaucratic reform," Sirait affirmed.

He also highlighted several government policies aimed at low-income people, such as the elimination of fees for PBG, land and building rights tax (BPHTB), and value-added tax (VAT).
