Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan ensured food stock availability ahead of the Chinese New Year this month and Eid al-Fitr in March.

"Ahead of the Chinese New Year, Ramadan, and Eid al-Fitr, the food stocks are safe and sufficient," he remarked on Wednesday.

However, Hasan emphasized that the government must make timely decisions regarding several aspects related to food requirements for the holidays, including meat procurement.

"We must decide on several aspects immediately, such as meat procurement for Ramadan and Eid," Hasan remarked.

In addition, he stated that the price increases in regions of several basic staples, such as bulk oil, will also be evaluated.

"For instance, the price of bulk oil and sugar has increased slightly in North Sumatra. We will conduct an evaluation meeting and regulate strategies to address this phenomenon," Hasan remarked.

Earlier, Trade Minister Budi Santoso ensured stable food prices ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr to maintain people's purchasing power.

Based on his recent monitoring in Medan, North Sumatra, the prices of several commodities, such as beef, chicken, rice, sugar, eggs, red chilies, cayenne pepper, shallots, and garlic, were recorded to be stable.

Moreover, Santoso announced that his ministry had issued import approval letters for feeder cattle, with some already arriving in Indonesia to meet the demands of Ramadan and Eid.

Regarding garlic imports planned at 550 thousand tons, Santoso said his side was still awaiting data on the commodity.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Quarantine Agency confirmed that 2,797 cattle imported from Australia that arrived in Indonesia in early January 2025 were free from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), aimed at fulfilling meat requirements during Ramadan and Eid.

To combat the spread of FMD, the Agriculture Ministry has also prepared four million doses of FMD vaccine throughout the country.
