Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has sought help from the Thai military to repatriate two migrant workers who are stuck in Myanmar.

“We are carrying out diplomatic approach with, for example, the Thai military, which controls the border area with Myanmar,” Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, Abdul Kadir Karding, informed here on Wednesday.

Four Indonesian migrant workers were initially held captive in Myanmar.

Two of them—identified as AN from Semarang, Central Java, and R from Langkat, North Sumatra— had arrived in Indonesia on Saturday (January 18, 2025).

Both said they were subjected to various forms of torture, including electric shocks and beatings, while working with the Myanmar company.

Meanwhile, two other migrant workers—one of whom is Robiin, who was a member of the Indramayu Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) from 2014 to 2019—are still trapped in the area.

The non-procedural migrant workers are suspected to have been trapped by an online scam company in Myawaddy, Myanmar, which borders Thailand.

Myawaddy is known as a battlefield for armed conflict between ethnic groups and the Myanmar military.

Karding refused to provide a clear reason why the other two migrant workers have not been repatriated, saying he is worried that it will affect their safety.

"In Myanmar, we are continuing to try to free the remaining ones. Of course, I cannot say how because it will affect them later," he said.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers is coordinating with the police attaché, defense attaché, and all external resources to try to resolve the issue.
