Head of the OIKN, Basuki Hadimuljono, said here on Saturday that President Prabowo Subianto aims to make Nusantara the country's political capital by 2028.
In view of this, the President has directed the OIKN and the Ministry of Public Works to review the design for the office complexes of legislative and judicial institutions in Nusantara city.
"It is important to speed up the development of Nusantara city between 2025 and 2028, especially for the legislative and judicial sectors, including offices, officials' residences, and other supporting facilities," he said.
The Ministry of Public Works has created a basic design for the ecosystem and the complexes housing the buildings of judicial and legislative institutions. However, President Prabowo has called for a review and re-evaluation of those designs.
"We will work with the Ministry of Public Works to form a design team that will work under the guidance of the President," Hadimuljono added.
To accelerate the development of Nusantara, the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) have agreed to allocate Rp48.8 trillion, or around US$3 billion, in the 2025 state budget.
The OIKN and the Ministry of Public Works aim to complete and operationalize the judicial and legislative ecosystem in Nusantara by 2028.
"President Prabowo Subianto aims for Nusantara city to become the political capital by 2028, allowing the executive, legislative, and judicial institutions to have their offices in the capital of Indonesia by that year," Hadimuljono said.
