"I support Malaysia as the chair of ASEAN this year and we are ready to receive a visit from the Malaysian Prime Minister and leaders for the annual consultation, which will be held in 2025," Prabowo said while issuing a joint press statement with Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
The annual consultation is a bilateral mechanism at the head of government level to provide direction for the development of relations between the countries in the future to make them stronger, more solid, and more progressive.
The annual consultation between Indonesia and Malaysia was last held in 2017 in Kuching, Malaysia.
While delivering the joint statement, President Prabowo said that Indonesia and Malaysia are neighboring countries with a similar culture and religion, adding that even the national languages of the two countries are derived from the same source.
Amid global uncertainty, Malaysia and Indonesia need to exchange their views, together with the participation of other ASEAN members, he added.
With a population of 600 million people, Prabowo said, ASEAN must compete with the EU for greater recognition in the global arena.
The growing region of Southeast Asia has also been known for decades as a peaceful region with no major conflict between its countries, he added.
As ASEAN chair, Malaysia will host more than 300 meetings and programs throughout this year.
Malaysia earlier chaired ASEAN in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
