"The Social Affairs Ministry has distributed logistics to flood-hit areas in West Jakarta, East Jakarta, and North Jakarta. We have also immediately dispatched Tagana to collect data (on the impact of the disaster)," the ministry's acting director of social protection for natural disaster victims, Masryani Mansyur, informed.
Speaking in Jakarta on Wednesday, she said that her team has delivered the assistance in two batches by involving logistics warehouses in Bekasi and Jakarta.
In the first batch of assistance, the government distributed 2 thousand packages of ready-to-eat meals, 400 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes, 200 packages of family kits, 200 packages of children's clothing, 250 bedsheets, 250 blankets, 100 portable tents, and 10 family tents.
The first batch of aid was valued at over Rp578 million (around US$35.6 thousand).
Furthermore, the Ministry of Social Affairs mobilized a warehouse run by the Jakarta Social Affairs Office to provide 150 sheets of mattresses, 150 packages of children's clothing, and 30 blankets to flood-affected residents as part of the second batch of assistance.
The ministry also set up three public kitchens at refugee shelters located across West Jakarta, East Jakarta, and North Jakarta.
The public kitchens have been tasked with preparing 12,360 meal boxes daily.
High-intensity rain from Tuesday to Wednesday in Jakarta and its surrounding regions has triggered floods in several parts of the Indonesian capital.
In the wake of the floods, 1,171 West Jakarta residents have been forced to evacuate to 6 shelters, 574 North Jakarta residents have been shifted to 3 shelters, and 550 people from East Jakarta have been moved to 2 shelters.
No fatalities or injuries have been reported so far.
