Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has assured that national stocks of food are at safe levels ahead of the Ramadan Month, which is predicted to start between the end of February and early March 2025.

Addressing reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday, Sulaiman emphasized that the government has been working to ensure sufficient stocks of staple commodities to keep their prices stable.

"We are working toward adequate stocks of cooking oil, meat, and rice. God willing, everything is under control," he said.

The minister expressed optimism that the current stocks of basic goods would be sufficient for the people to meet their needs during the Islamic holy month.

"We are confident that the prices of food commodities will remain stable during Ramadan," he added.

Drawing attention to rice, Sulaiman highlighted that Indonesia is expected to witness a boom in the production of the commodity to up to 14 million tons in the first quarter of this year, as per Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

In response, the government has decided to allocate a budget of Rp16.6 trillion (over US$1 billion) to state-run logistics company Bulog to absorb the large volume of rice projected to be produced by domestic farmers.

He also quoted President Prabowo Subianto as saying that the government should make the most of the rice harvest period from February to April this year.

The minister made the remarks after a meeting with the head of state to discuss viable measures to optimize the projected surplus in rice yields

He said that during the meeting, President Prabowo urged the Ministry of Agriculture and Bulog to accelerate the absorption of unhusked rice produced by farmers to ensure maximum profits for them while taming the prices of the commodity.
