Jakarta (ANTARA) - Acting head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, has said that Indonesia’s gross domestic product (GDP) per capita increased to Rp78.62 million in 2024 from Rp75 million in 2023.

“GDP per capita in 2024 is Rp78.62 million, or US$4,960.33 per capita,” she informed in Jakarta on Wednesday.

GDP per capita is an indirect indicator of per capita income and is often used to assess the prosperity of a region.

Widyasanti said that the nominal GDP value was recorded at Rp22,138.96 trillion in 2024, an increase from Rp20,892.4 trillion in 2023.

She added that though the GDP and GDP per capita increased, Indonesia’s cumulative economic growth (c-to-c) slowed in 2024.

“Indonesia’s economy in 2024 grew by 5.03 percent, slowing down compared to the achievement in 2023, which grew by 5.05 percent (c-to-c),” she expounded.

According to Widyasanti, the slowdown aligns with the forecast of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which projected that economic growth in developing countries would slow compared to 2023, but still be higher than global achievements.

The latest IMF projection as of January 2025 states that economic growth in developing countries will decline to 4.2 percent in 2024 from 4.4 percent in 2023. Global economic growth is also predicted to decrease to 3.2 percent from 3.3 percent.

Not only developing countries but several developed nations that are Indonesia’s main trading partners have also experienced a slowdown in economic growth.
