This announcement follows the official closure of USAID by US President Donald Trump on February 3.
During a media briefing held in Jakarta on Friday, the ministry's spokesperson, Rolliansyah Soemirat, stated that there was no official information available regarding the US Agency for International Development (USAID) programs that were affected by the US government's policy.
He noted that several grants from USAID, which operate under the Bilateral Development Cooperation Framework mechanism for the 2020-2026 period, have been running for several years.
As a result, his team is awaiting further information from the US regarding the continuation of the grant.
He then emphasized that the 75-year bilateral relationship between Indonesia and the US is robust and expected to strengthen further.
Soemirat remarked that any policy implemented by the US government, as well as other Indonesian partner countries, is executed with thorough consideration and mutual respect.
He also expressed belief that any potential impacts resulting from the policy can be discussed collaboratively to mitigate significant losses for the countries involved.
USAID is an independent US government agency that is dedicated to providing humanitarian assistance to countries recovering from disasters, striving to overcome poverty, and undergoing democratic reforms.
USAID's headquarters in Washington officially closed on February 3 after Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), announced that President Trump had agreed to close the agency.
On February 2, Musk referred to USAID as a "criminal organization" and stated, "It is time for the organization to die."
This statement was made in response to USAID's denial of access to security systems, personnel files, and classified information at USAID headquarters to DOGE personnel.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed his role as the USAID acting director. He affirmed that the agency must adhere to the policy direction of the US State Department, clarifying that the current situation does not indicate a complete cessation of their programs.
According to USAID's website, all direct USAID employees, except those performing critical functions, will be placed on administrative leave globally.
