Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has initiated discussions regarding potential flight ticket price reductions for the upcoming 2025 Eid al-Fitr period, according to State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir.

"Following our success in reducing airfares by 10 percent for the Christmas and New Year holiday period during President Prabowo Subianto's first 100 days in office, we have begun talks about a similar rebate for Eid," he noted in his ministry's statement cited on Wednesday.

Thohir emphasized that last year's successful implementation of the 10-percent discount on flight tickets resulted from effective synergy among state institutions across sectors, including the SOEs Ministry and the state-run companies it manages.

"We, at the SOEs Ministry, and all SOEs remain supportive of President Prabowo Subianto's vision and missions, and I believe that other ministries share this spirit. The success story we have carved is surely the fruit of cross-sector cooperation," he affirmed.

Earlier, on February 6, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi suggested that the government implement a similar policy to lower airline ticket prices for the forthcoming Eid al-Fitr homecoming period, similar to what was implemented during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holiday period.

He stated that the policy had a positive impact on the national aviation industry, with domestic flights seeing a year-on-year (yoy) growth of approximately 10.3 percent, with an average load factor of 80 percent.

"This figure is higher than the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year period, which was at five percent yoy," he noted.

He echoed the Ministry of Transportation's commitment to ensuring public convenience, which includes lowering flight fares during the Eid transportation period to enhance accessibility and affordability for a larger segment of the population.
