BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati conveyed this during a budget efficiency hearing with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Wednesday.
"Our budget for earthquake and tsunami mitigation is Rp41.9 billion, and it will remain unchanged, including funds for earthquake field school activities," Karnawati said.
She added that other public service budgets, such as the Rp70 million allocation for BMKG's climate information service, will also be preserved.
Karnawati emphasized that budget efficiency measures at BMKG have not affected salaries or performance allowances, which remain within the initial ceiling of Rp847 million.
Initially, BMKG’s 2025 budget was set at Rp2.8 trillion. However, due to the efficiency policy, it was cut by 50 percent to Rp1.4 trillion.
During a meeting with the Directorate General of Budget at the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday, Karnawati requested a budget efficiency revision. As a result, BMKG’s revised budget was increased to Rp1.7 trillion.
She noted that further discussions with Commission V would be needed to finalize the details.
"On Tuesday, I met with the Director General of Budget, along with representatives from other ministries. A budget revision was made, allowing BMKG to receive Rp1.7 trillion," she explained.
Karnawati expressed hope that Commission V would support the legal ratification of the revised budget.
President Prabowo Subianto has instructed a Rp306 trillion (nearly US$18.7 billion) reduction in the government budget.
The savings will be allocated to fund key community programs, including free nutritious meals, food and energy self-sufficiency, and improvements in the health sector.
