Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti has affirmed the ministry's dedication to enhancing the competence of English teachers across Indonesia.

This commitment was voiced during Minister Mu'ti's participation in the Cambridge English Asia-Pacific Leadership Summit 2025 forum held here on Wednesday (February 12).

"We are very enthusiastic about the deep learning approach in schools, which promotes awareness and meaningful and joyful learning," Mu'ti emphasized.

The minister affirmed that his side is dedicated to preparing future generations to be knowledgeable, respectful of values, healthy, skilled, and adaptable.

"With this method, we aim to help our students develop in the eight dimensions of the Indonesian Student Profile, which include being religious, empathetic, critical thinkers, creative, collaborative, proactive, healthy, and effective communicators," he remarked.

Mu'ti stated that effective communication, especially in English, is crucial in today's globalized world.

Improving students' English language skills can unlock new avenues for learning, information access, and broader cultural awareness.

In his view, this constitutes a vital measure in grooming future leaders and builders of the Indonesian nation.

Speaking in connection with improving English language skills, Minister Mu'ti noted the completion of the first round of Continuing Professional Development for English teachers by the ministry last year.

He assessed that many English teachers in Indonesia still possess elementary to secondary-level competence.

Hence, the ministry is committed to elevating English teachers' proficiency to advanced levels, such as B2 and C1, to enhance the quality of teaching and learning across all schools despite existing challenges.

"I am optimistic that today's forum will inspire dynamic discussions and fresh ideas, as well as fortify our collaboration to strengthen English education," he remarked.
