Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, after a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace here on Tuesday, said that Eid homecoming travel needs to be made safe, easy, and not too expensive.
"Let's hope everything goes well. We want Indonesians to be able to practice their faith and also have a safe, easy, and comfortable Eid holiday trip, with more affordable travel," he added.
During his meeting with President Prabowo Subianto and related government agencies, Yudhoyono informed that the government is still preparing for the Eid homecoming travel rush.
He said President Prabowo has instructed that all policies made should help the public, especially during important occasions such as the Eid holiday.
When asked about ensuring ticket affordability during the Eid period, he said that the government is still discussing it.
"We cannot announce it yet because we need a bit more time. I ask for patience, as the Ministry of Transportation is still discussing with the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), the Ministry of Finance, and others," he informed.
Besides lowering ticket prices, the government is also seeking to improve the road, sea, air, and rail transportation infrastructure to ensure smooth Eid homecoming travel.
"We are working on it, and finishing all the coordination; everything needs to be calculated accurately and carefully, and we will announce it to the public when the time is right," he said.
