He informed that the government is continuing to hold discussions with related ministries/institutions regarding the import policies and regulations.
"Gradually. We will complete TPT first," he said at his ministry's office in Jakarta on Thursday.
He added that discussions regarding import regulations must involve many parties.
Furthermore, the revision cannot be immediately ratified without an agreement between ministries, institutions, and other related associations.
"We continue to discuss it and hopefully, it will be completed soon. Some processes are carried out between ministries/institutions and there must be agreement and discussion between ministries/institutions," he said.
The changes to Permendag 8/2024 aim to protect the domestic industry, he explained. He said he hopes that the revision will benefit domestic business actors.
"The point is that we are trying to protect all domestic industries in various ways, including import policies, as well as domestically," he added.
According to Santoso, the revision concerning import policies and regulations is expected to be completed in February this year.
"It should be completed in February," he said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He informed that the ministry has held discussions with ministries/institutions and representatives from upstream and downstream industries as well as consumers to evaluate the policies.
He said the evaluation focused on several commodities, such as ready-to-wear clothing and more recently, cassava.
The government is currently formulating appropriate regulations for the imports of several commodities, which are considered detrimental to domestic business actors.
He emphasized that the timing of the revision was also influenced by the harmonization process at the Ministry of Law.
