Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, has asked regional governments to improve infrastructure to anticipate the Eid al-Fitr exodus travel flow.

"Regional governments are also being mobilized to improve infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and other facilities such as rest areas and traveler services," he stated at a press conference here on Wednesday.

He added that the government has inspected key infrastructure for Eid holiday travelers and identified potential disaster-prone areas, such as landslides and floods, along with the necessary heavy equipment for emergency response.

The government has assured that teams from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) will be kept on standby at several risky locations to anticipate potential disasters.

This will be carried out by referring to the weather forecasts issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

On the same occasion, Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, said that his ministry is coordinating with local governments on the repair of provincial and district roads. He explained that damage to these roads would also affect travelers using national roads.

"As some matters fall under the jurisdiction of regional governments, such as vessels should not be overloaded, which can be dangerous, and life jackets should be prepared according to the respective standard operating procedures," he added.

He said that regional governments must also ensure safety and readiness at some small airports ahead of the holiday period.

He further urged them to inspect food readiness and tourist locations, in addition to preparing anticipatory measures against disasters in their respective areas.
