Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti said that his ministry is seeking to collaborate with Pelita Harapan University (UPH), which recently opened its Artificial Intelligence Faculty, to prepare teachers to teach AI and coding, which will be offered as elective subjects in 2025–2026.
"We have discussed the areas in which we can cooperate soon. There are two options that the ministry proposed to UPH," he informed here on Wednesday.
First, the ministry has asked the private university to provide short trainings of one to two months to teachers who will teach the two elective subjects.
Regarding the number of teachers who will take part in the training, the ministry will adjust it to the needs of schools that are ready to offer the two subjects.
"The first is training for teachers who will later teach coding and artificial intelligence subjects," the minister said.
Second, he asked the UPH to provide opportunities in the form of scholarships to students who have an interest and talent in the fields of AI and coding so that they can pursue higher education at the Faculty of AI of the UPH.
He expressed the hope that the collaboration will help the government prepare teachers for teaching AI and coding subjects so that the national education quality improvement can be accelerated.
