Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA) - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said that approximately 18.7 million people are expected to travel to the province during the Eid al-Fitr exodus season, based on data from the Ministry of Transportation.

"According to the minister (Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi), around 103.7 million people are expected to travel during the homecoming season in Java, with 18.7 million of them heading to East Java," she informed during a meeting with the minister here on Friday.

The East Java provincial government and the ministry are preparing strategies for the 2025 Eid exodus season.

Parawansa said that the peak of the exodus season is expected to happen earlier than usual, that is, instead of D-3, or three days before Eid, it could potentially occur on D-7, seven days before Eid.

"However, further data collection is still needed regarding critical points such as railroad crossings, street markets, and water-based tourist destinations," she added.

She also urged people planning to travel home to or from Bali Island to take into account the Nyepi Day of Silence on March 28, 2025.

"Please plan carefully that on March 28 (Nyepi Day), they need to adjust their travel plans, either by going earlier or later," she said.

Meanwhile, Minister Purwagandhi said that the central and local governments are coordinating to ensure smooth Eid homecoming travel, including the readiness of transportation modes and supporting facilities such as rest areas, especially for two-wheeled vehicle users.

"We have conveyed several anticipatory measures to the local governments, both provincial and district/city levels, to ensure that the community's journey will be safer, more comfortable, and more secure," he added.
