"The relations between the two countries have been established since a long time ago, and the two countries share many similarities. Indonesia is experiencing good growth in the region, likewise with Vietnam," he observed at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
He lauded the bilateral agreement to boost trade between the countries to US$18 billion by 2028.
According to Kirana, Indonesia and Vietnam can cooperate in many fields, such as economy, technology, plantation, and agriculture.
Moreover, he said, the two countries share many similarities in several fields and are emerging economies.
"We must maintain (relations) so that strategic cooperation that is more comprehensive can be realized going forward," the MPR deputy speaker added.
Earlier, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), To Lam, met with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, as part of his visit to Indonesia.
During their meeting on Monday, President Prabowo advocated for elevating the partnership between Indonesia and Vietnam to a comprehensive strategic level.
Prabowo explained that boosting cooperation will strengthen the ties between the two countries, which were established in 1955.
While speaking to the Vietnamese delegation, he underscored that the two countries share similarities in their history and values, especially when it comes to how they defended their independence and sovereignty by fighting against colonialism and imperialism.
