Upon landing at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, the former president of Vietnam was greeted by honor guards, along with music and a gun salute performed by Indonesian soldiers.
He was welcomed by Indonesia's Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs at Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry Andy Rachmianto, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong were also present.
The state visit, which will extend until March 11, is To Lam's first since taking on the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
On Monday, he and his wife, Ngo Phuong Ly, will be received in a welcome ceremony from President Prabowo at the Jakarta Presidential Palace.
During his visit, To Lam is also scheduled to meet with Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani, and Regional Representative Council (DPD) Speaker Sultan Najamudin.
In a release issued on Sunday, President Prabowo's office stated that To Lam's visit is expected to enhance the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Vietnam.
"The state visit of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam also coincides with the 70th anniversary of Indonesia-Vietnam ties," the office noted.
