He argued that the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision is essentially within reach, considering the shift in the determining factors in the global struggle for power from military might to economic prowess.
“The economy of a country relies heavily on its production capacity. Those who are prolific and capable of flooding the world with their products will emerge as a hegemon, the dominating power,” he said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Karnavian made the remarks during the Technical Coordination Meeting on Development Planning 2025, which was held online and involved representatives from regional governments across the country.
The minister said that to become a decisive global power, a country requires a large workforce, vast territory, and abundant natural resources.
“We have an advantage in the form of a demographic bonus, where residents aged between 15 and 60 years make up approximately 68.7 percent of our population,” he pointed out.
While acknowledging this trend as a valuable asset for Indonesia, Karnavian stressed that the country must ensure its human resources are productive, skilled, competitive, and healthy.
“Unskilled and unhealthy residents will instead become a burden and trigger social problems, crimes, and other issues,” he explained.
Drawing attention to the nation’s geographic characteristics, the minister highlighted that Indonesia spans a vast territory, comparable in size to Europe and the United States.
He then pointed out that Indonesia is blessed with abundant natural resources, which are valuable raw materials for the production of goods.
“We tend to overlook the fact that Indonesia has extraordinary amounts of natural resources,” he observed.
Considering these advantages, the minister said he is confident that Indonesia has the capability to enter a golden era as a developed nation by 2045.
