"I offer my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the recent Air India plane crash," Minister Sugiono wrote in a message posted on his official Instagram account @sugiono_56 on Friday.
In his English-language statement, the foreign minister urged the public to pray for the victims and extended his appreciation to the rescue teams for their swift response.
“Let us pray together and remember those who have lost their lives while also appreciating the efforts of the rescue teams and authorities who responded quickly to this emergency,” he stated.
"May those who have passed away rest in eternal peace, and may their families be granted strength and resilience during this difficult time," he remarked.
Air India confirmed on Friday that only one person survived the crash of the London-bound flight, which went down in a residential area in Ahmedabad, western India. The sole survivor is a British national who is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
The Boeing 787-8 aircraft departed for London Gatwick Airport at 13:38 local time on Thursday, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Shortly after takeoff, it crashed in the Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad.
Local media also reported fatalities on the ground, in addition to the passengers and crew.
According to Air India, the passengers included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian citizen.
