Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Food Agency (Bapanas) is intensifying efforts to promote the consumption of a varied, balanced, and safe (B2SA) diet from an early age to cultivate a high-quality generation in support of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

"The B2SA concept emphasizes the importance of consuming a diverse range of foods in appropriate portions while ensuring food safety," director of food consumption diversification at the agency, Rinna Syawal, said in a statement released here on Saturday.

According to Syawal, instilling the habit of consuming a safe, diverse, and balanced diet from an early age is crucial to fostering a healthy, active, and productive Indonesian population.

"The B2SA diet, which Bapanas is promoting, offers an easy-to-follow approach to achieving nutritional balance," she added.

One of Bapanas' key initiatives to encourage this dietary habit is the B2SA Goes to School (BGtS) program.

"In 2024 alone, the program has been implemented in 550 schools and Islamic boarding schools across all provinces in Indonesia, reaching approximately 137,500 participants, including students and teachers," she noted.

The program employs engaging methods, such as educational games, drawing, and coloring competitions, to make learning about nutritional balance fun and accessible for younger generations.

According to the Directorate of Food Consumption Diversification, vegetable consumption among Indonesians is still at 250 grams per day, while fruit consumption is 150 grams per day.

The figures are still below WHO (World Health Organization) recommendations of 400–600 grams per day.

For that reason, Bapanas is intensifying the dissemination of information and education regarding food diversification by involving various parties.

Syawal said that the B2SA My Plate guidelines encourage filling one-third of the plate with the main food, one-third with vegetables, one-sixth with protein dishes, and one-sixth with fruits.

This ensures that every plate contains carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, and minerals in a balanced amount.
