Purwagandhi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya conducted a review to directly check the readiness of Gambir Station's facilities and infrastructure in preparation for Eid transportation.
"The visit aims to ensure the readiness of facilities, infrastructure, services, and officers ahead of the surge in the flow of homecoming transportation," the minister noted in a statement on Monday.
Based on the Survey of Potential for Community Movement for Eid Transportation 2025, issued by the Ministry of Transportation's Transportation Policy Agency (BKT), Gambir Station is one of the main departure points for homecoming travelers, with an estimated 996.65 thousand passengers, or 4.24 percent of the total national homecoming travelers.
The survey found that around 146.48 million people will return home for the Eid holiday.
Hence, Purwagandhi and Teddy reviewed various aspects of the station, including its readiness, starting from the ticketing system, public facilities like waiting rooms and prayer rooms, accessibility for passengers with special needs, and the preparedness of the train sets.
"The surge in homecoming travelers must be anticipated with excellent service to realize a safe and comfortable trip," the minister remarked.
He then emphasized the importance of the readiness of service and security personnel. Coordination between the state-owned railway company PT KAI, the police, and related agencies is crucial to ensure the smooth operation of the station.
He explained that the ministry projects the 2025 Eid homecoming flow to peak on March 28, 2025, potentially involving up to 12.1 million people, with the implementation of the work-from-anywhere (WFA) policy.
Meanwhile, the peak of the return flow is expected to occur on D+5, or April 6, 2025, potentially involving 31.49 million people.
According to Purwagandhi, the government will implement effective policies to anticipate the surge in homecoming travelers, which may cause significant congestion at several transportation nodes and road sections, including both toll roads and arterial roads.
"Some of these include the implementation of the WFA policy, the free homecoming program, traffic engineering, and traffic management, especially in areas with high risk of congestion," he revealed.
