"Is the Bill on Amendments to Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the Indonesian National Armed Forces to be brought to the second stage of discussion in the House Plenary Meeting for approval as a law?" Chair of DPR Commission I, Utut Adianto, stated at the parliament complex here on Tuesday.
All members present responded affirmatively to this question.
The military bill was approved for further discussion at the Plenary Meeting after all political party factions within the House shared their final opinions. All factions consented to continue deliberating on the bill.
The decision was witnessed by Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas, Deputy Minister of Defense Donny Ermawan, and Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono.
Adianto earlier stated that all mechanisms for discussing the bill had been completed, including receiving a letter from the president, gathering aspirations from various community elements, and concluding meetings at the working committee level.
"We have also met with the TNI commander and the chiefs of staff of the Army, Navy, and Air Force," he remarked.
If enacted into law, proposed changes in the bill would amend Law No. 34 of 2004, comprising three articles: Article 3 regarding TNI's position, Article 53 concerning the military retirement age, and Article 47 about civil roles that can be filled by active TNI personnel.
The retirement age for four-star generals is set at 63 years but can be extended up to 65 years based on national requirements.
Additionally, the bill states that 15 fields of civil positions can be held by active TNI personnel.
