Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and members of the Red and White Cabinet gave zakat (alms) through the National Alms Agency (Baznas) at the State Palace here on Thursday.

The President recited the zakat intention statement while handing over the alms. He was accompanied by Baznas chairperson Noor Achmad.

VP Gibran was next to pay alms. He was followed by several ministers and officials from the Red and White Cabinet, who took turns handing over alms through Baznas.

While speaking at the event, Prabowo emphasized the importance of giving alms to help those facing difficulties in life.

He noted that many citizens are struggling to meet their basic needs.

"Let's pray for them; let us extend a helping hand to them. One way to do this is through alms-giving and charity. By giving alms, we deepen our sense of gratitude and appreciation to God for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us," Prabowo said.

He added that alms can serve as a means to share with others, assist the underprivileged, and alleviate their life burdens.

Alms-giving is described as a reflection of the spirit of mutual cooperation and an effort to reduce social inequality, as well as a manifestation of social justice and equitable welfare.

Prabowo expressed the hope that the alms-giving will perfect the worship done during Ramadan and increase piety for God.

"May the alms we give contribute to our worship during Ramadan and deepen our piety to God," he said.

Furthermore, the President noted that the potential for alms collection in Indonesia is considerable at Rp327 trillion, while this year's receipts have reached Rp41 trillion so far.
