Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno stated that train-based homecoming began as early as D-10 of Eid, driven by the adoption of the work-from-anywhere (WFA) policy.

Pratikno made the statement during his visit to Gambir Station in Jakarta on Saturday, accompanied by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, and Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

"We received a report stating that the homecoming flow had begun since D-10 due to the WFA policy that has quite significant implications," Pratikno remarked.

He explained that extensive WFA implementation prompted homecoming travelers to start their journeys early, beginning from D-10 of Eid and peaking on Friday (March 28).

Pratikno assessed that state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has offered excellent services to passengers, from online ticketing services to record and check passengers to facial recognition technology that streamlines the check-in process, including train ticket purchases.

"We would like to thank PT KAI and its staff for working hard to serve the public," Pratikno noted.

He further urged KAI to enhance its services in preparation for the return flow of homecoming travelers.

"We hope the return flow will be sufficiently distributed over several days to prevent overcrowding of passengers on certain days," he recommended.

Earlier, the government had outlined the WFA policy in the Circular Letter (SE) of the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Number 2 of 2025. The SE specified that State Civil Apparatus (ASN) could perform their official tasks remotely between March 24 and 27, 2025.

The return flow is expected to peak on D+5, or April 6, 2025, with an estimated 31.49 million travelers on that day.

A survey conducted in collaboration with Litbang Kompas revealed that 146.48 million people, equivalent to 52 percent of Indonesia's population, are expected to travel during this year's Eid holiday period.
