"Pasar Senen Station has the highest passenger occupancy with 22,323, followed by Gambir Station with 17,201 passengers. The number is still increasing," KAI Public Relations Manager for Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta Ixfan Hendriwintoko remarked in Jakarta on Friday.
Hendriwintoko attributed the 108 percent occupancy to the dynamic nature of train passenger movements.
"Some got on from Gambir, some got off in Cikampek, or some got off in Cirebon, then other passengers got on from Cirebon, creating dynamic occupancy patterns," he remarked.
He noted that Purwokerto, Kutoarjo, and Yogyakarta are popular destinations for Eid homecoming travelers.
"Meanwhile, most of the passengers from Gambir Station go to Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, or Malang," he remarked.
He stated that Friday's occupancy rate was an increase from Thursday's 104 percent. His side has taken several anticipatory steps to address the surge in passengers.
"Starting from inspections, conducting ramp checks, infrastructure, and facilities for minimum service standards. We also monitor special areas, and the most important aspect is increasing the number of train trips," he noted.
Pasar Senen Station recorded the highest occupancy, as more than 60 percent of the trains offered were economy class or the most affordable option.
On Friday, Hendriwintoko stated that 15 additional long-distance trains depart from Daop 1, totaling 87 train trips on D-3 of Eid.
On that occasion, he noted that PT KAI observed a 10 to 11 percent increase in trips during the 2025 Eid homecoming period compared to last year.
Meanwhile, 1,500 train trips were recorded during the 2023 Eid homecoming, rising to around 1,600 trips in the corresponding period in 2024.
