Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto confirmed no Indonesian citizens were victims of the earthquake in Myanmar.

"So far, Indonesian citizens are safe. There were no injuries, let alone fatalities," Suharyanto stated when met at a press conference at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, Tuesday.

The BNPB gathered information from various sources regarding the Indonesian citizens' condition in Myanmar shortly after the earthquake struck on March 28, 2025.

However, he admitted that the current condition of Indonesian citizens residing in Myanmar post-earthquake remains unclear.

The agency head also did not detail the number of Indonesian citizens remaining in Myanmar after the earthquake.

"More details will be conveyed by the Foreign Affairs Ministry," he remarked.

Currently, Suharyanto is focused on sending BNPB, Basarnas, and Baznas personnel to Myanmar to support evacuation efforts for the earthquake victims.

"Today, the search and rescue team will be dispatched. It consists of 53 personnel assisted by security and one Boeing 747 aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Air Force," he remarked.

He revealed that the aircraft would immediately land at Myanmar Airport today, carrying humanitarian troops tasked with locating victims in piles of building rubble, building humanitarian posts, and providing medical assistance.

Following today's departure, his side and the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) will dispatch another batch of troops on April 2 to maximize the evacuation process for earthquake victims.

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday, March 28, 2025, with tremors reaching India, Thailand, Bangladesh, Laos, and China.

The earthquake claimed at least one thousand lives and left 2,300 others injured in Myanmar.

Meanwhile, in Thailand, eight fatalities were reported while 80 individuals remained missing after the earthquake struck Bangkok, about one thousand kilometers from the epicenter of the earthquake in Myanmar.
