Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto and Indonesia's fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri, are expected to hold additional meetings following Prabowo's visit to his predecessor's residence on April 7, House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani stated.

"There will be more visits and meetings," she told the media at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Monday.

While she did not specify the dates for the upcoming meetings, Maharani—Megawati's daughter and a prominent figure in the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) that she chairs—emphasized that the two national leaders are expected to discuss matters related to the nation’s progress.

"They will surely talk about ways to work towards developing the nation in synergy," she remarked.

Maharani also underlined that the PDIP might provide more tangible support to President Prabowo in fulfilling his duties as head of state.

Earlier, Prabowo visited Megawati at her private residence on Teuku Umar Street in Jakarta on the night of April 7.

Ahmad Muzani, Secretary-General of the Prabowo-led Gerindra Party and Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), confirmed the visit, explaining that it was primarily intended as an Eid al-Fitr celebration.

However, he revealed that the two leaders also took the opportunity to discuss several important matters, including the 32 percent import tariff imposed by the United States on Indonesian products.

"Mr. Prabowo addressed various global problems and challenges, most notably US President Donald Trump's policy of imposing new tariffs on foreign products, including those from Indonesia," Muzani remarked in Jakarta on April 9.

He stated that both leaders agreed that Indonesia should leverage Trump's new tariff policy as an opportunity to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian products.

He also noted that Megawati shared insights from her experience in recovering Indonesia’s national economy.

"Madam Mega explained how she overcame challenges to recover the national economy. Mr. Prabowo highly valued Madam Mega’s views and efforts on this matter," he said.

Muzani, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs were also present at the former president's home that night.
