Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Cooperatives has announced its goal of establishing eight thousand "Red and White" cooperatives in villages across Papua to help improve the local economy and quality of life.

Resty Hadiyanti, an assistant official at the Ministry, stated here on Tuesday that the "Red and White" cooperatives are part of President Prabowo Subianto's directives and called for public support for this program.

"On Monday (April 21), we conducted training for notaries on the issuance of registration numbers for Red and White cooperatives located in the city of Jayapura," she remarked.

Hadiyanti stated that these cooperatives will provide affordable basic necessities, savings and loan services, health clinics, and warehousing and logistics facilities.

"We aim to launch the cooperatives on July 12, in conjunction with the establishment of 80,000 cooperatives spread across villages and urban areas throughout Indonesia," she added.

She explained that the initiative is intended to boost the rural economy nationwide, including in Papua.

"All preparations have been made to ensure smooth implementation, thereby improving the quality of life in rural communities," she noted.

Hadiyanti also mentioned that the Red and White cooperatives will offer various financing channels to support the public.

"There will be six financing outlets, established through cooperation between the Ministry of Cooperatives and related institutions, including the state-owned bank association (Himbara) and the Ministry of Villages," she elaborated.

The Red and White Village Cooperatives program is also seen as a strategic effort to stabilize food commodity prices.
