Sianturi made this statement following a meeting between TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and Yoshida Yoshihide, Chief of Staff of the JSDF Joint Staff, at the TNI Headquarters in East Jakarta on Friday.
Sianturi explained that this cooperation might involve personnel exchanges and the sharing of military technology, enabling TNI soldiers to learn from Japan's cyber defense posture and strategies.
He affirmed that this opportunity for collaboration aligns with TNI's ongoing and intensive efforts to strengthen Indonesia's capacity to counter unconventional threats, including those emerging in cyberspace.
In this regard, the officer emphasized that the TNI recognizes the importance of learning from countries renowned for their advanced military technology.
"We are interested in learning from other countries, not only Japan. This approach provides us with a benchmark, prompting the TNI to conduct evaluations as an effort to emerge as an institution with reliable cyber defense capabilities," he stated.

Sianturi expressed hope that by expanding military ties into the cyber domain, Indonesia and Japan will further enhance their long-standing bilateral relations.
The discourse surrounding Indonesia–Japan cyber defense cooperation was also brought up during a meeting between Indonesian Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and his Japanese counterpart Gen Nakatani in Jakarta earlier this January.
"In principle, the two delegations share the same view about cyber threats being a common challenge for the global community," Brig. Gen. Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang, head of the Defense Ministry's Information Center, stated at a post-meeting press conference on January 7.
However, he did not specify the model of cyber defense cooperation to be established between Indonesia and Japan.
